AT 67, BELINDA CARLISLE CREDITS THIS EARLY MORNING HABIT FOR STAYING FIT

Many would agree that the noted singer, Belinda Carlisle, looks fitter than others of her age, and the 67-year-old credits one of her early morning habits for keeping her better than most 67-year-olds.

In a recent interview with The Times, the former lead vocalist of ‘The Go-Go’s’ shared her fitness-maintaining morning routine. She revealed, “I get up at 3.30 am, make coffee, get back into bed, and listen to an audiobook by a Buddhist teacher for 40 minutes. [Then] I I get up and do my meditation and chanting practice until 6am, when I go for an hour-long walk.”

But while Carlisle now follows this routine religiously, she used to be quite the opposite person earlier, and the untoward experiences induced the change in her.

The Mad About You singer disclosed the reason behind adopting this habit, saying, “[The age] forty was a big turning point in my life because I was dropped by my record company, [and] I also got into Buddhist chanting.”

Carlisle told the newspaper that she struggled “personally with a lot of things”, and chanting changed her perspective on life.

In 2023, while speaking about her challenges, Carlisle told The i Paper that she was dropped from The Go-Go’s due to her substance abuse issues. She mentioned that it was the “first time [in her career]” that she “had no record company.”

After her separation from the rock band, she found Buddhism, which helped her get sober and be more present on stage during performances. She even admitted that it also helped her to overcome imposter syndrome. Because of this, she used to be very “afraid to get on stage,” and she even believed she didn’t deserve “this amazing career.”

But because of her early-morning wake-up routine and chanting, she doesn’t feel that way now.

But apart from this early wake-up routine, she follows a well-structured and planned day.

How does Belinda Carlisle’s whole day look like?

In the 16 August, 2025 edition of The Telegraph’s “My Saturday” column, Belinda Carlisle revealed how she spends her day after her rituals at 3.30 am.

  • 6 am: after returning from a walk, Belinda Carlisle likes to practise Pilates, which she has been doing for the last 30 years, and then she jumps to stretching. Then she has her breakfast, usually a piece of toast and eggs.
  • 10 am: after going through her emails, she takes an online Spanish class for an hour.
  • 11:30 am: She said, “If it’s just my husband and me, we’ll go for an early lunch. There are so many restaurants nearby that it’s hard to choose where to go…. I’ve been living in Mexico City for about five years, but I don’t really eat any Mexican food now, which is funny…. I’m a vegetarian, and there are amazing patisseries and bakeries near us”.
  • 3 pm: At this time, she takes a small nap and sometimes watches movies.
  • 5:30 pm: Carlisle and her husband prefer to eat early, and that is why they finish their dinner at 5:30 pm.
  • 7:30 pm: She said, “I’m usually asleep at about this time. I try to push it to 8 pm, but I’m so tired because I’m up so early. My husband will stay up and watch the big screen in the TV room till about 11 pm”.
